The tragic story of the immensely popular Chinese poet Gu Cheng, who left his homeland after the student rebellion was crushed at Tiananmen Square. He relocated to New Zealand with both his wife and mistress, but soon realized that despite his pop icon status in China, the Mandarin-speaking Gu was viewed as just another immigrant. When Gu's mistress fled to Australia and his wife voiced her intentions to leave him, Gu retaliated with a murder-suicide.
