Writer and producer Manny Coto trained at the American Film Institute and right away began writing for science fiction and thriller shows such as "Tales from the Crypt" and "The Outer Limits." In 2003, Coto became a writer for the third season of the sci-fi series "Star Trek: Enterprises," starring Scott Bakula, writing such episodes as "Similitude" and "Chosen Realm," and he was primarily responsible for constructing the Xindi story arc. Coto was made co-executive producer later in that season and an executive producer of the show in its fourth season. Coto also contributed scripts to the outer-space show "Odyssey 5," and from 2006 to 2010 was a writer for the action series "24," for which he served as a co-executive and then an executive producer. In 2007, Coto co-created the short-lived show "The 1/2 Hour News Hour," and he has also been an executive producer for the Showtime serial-killer drama "Dexter."
