Santino Fontana's early life was all on the west coast, as he was born in California and grew up mostly in Washington. After attending college for acting in Minnesota, Fontana hit the stage, appearing in productions of "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Death of a Salesman" near his alma mater of the University of Minnesota. Within a few years, he moved on from the Midwest to the Broadway, first appearing as the George understudy in Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George" in 2007. His next appearance was a Tony Elliot in the debut run of "Billy Elliot the Musical" in 2008, followed by a few other smaller performances. His most notable Broadway role ties into his most notable film role, as he appeared as the charming Prince Topher in the "Cinderella" revival in 2013, and then more formally entered into Disney's vault as he voiced Prince Hans in "Frozen" (2013). "Frozen" led the way for Fontana to become recognized, and he appeared in a live-action film in a cameo role shortly after in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" (2014). His screen career continued to develop, as he joined the cast of the new comedy show "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (The CW 2015- ) as well as the Jennifer Lopez-starring police procedural "Shades of Blue" (NBC 2016- ). Fontana also appeared alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in "Sisters" (2015).
