Chris Redd became a familiar face to audiences when he joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975-) as a featured player in 2017. Born in St. Louis in 1985 but raised in Chicago, Redd was initially interested in music and pursued a career in hip hop for several years. His interest eventually waned however, and he began to take an interest in comedy. Determined to give himself a fair shot in such a competitive industry, the burgeoning stand-up used his savings to embark on a three-year plan, devoting himself almost entirely to taking classes on writing, improv, and sketch at Second City and the iO Theater in Chicago, all while tirelessly performing stand-up on a nightly basis. When his three years were up, Redd was well on his way and continued his efforts, eventually going out on auditions. He landed guest starring roles on shows like "Chicago P.D." (NBC, 2014-), "Empire" (Fox, 2015-), and "Love" (Netflix, 2016-) before landing a co-starring role on the series "Disjointed" (Netflix, 2017-) in 2017. That same year, Redd was given his first half-hour comedy special on "Comedy Central Stand Up Presents" (Comedy Central, 2017-) as well as his coveted place on SNL.
